Whether you are a CEO, elected official, teacher, nurse, soccer mom or stay-at-home dad, you lead. I speak and write about such real leaders. I can tap a lot, for I have had the benefit of closely observing my wife lead on a dramatic scale – Michigan’s first-ever female governor. I have also watched her lead a law office and . . . our teenage girls. In my case, I have run governmental divisions and non-profit organizations, managed political campaigns and started and run a successful business. When I speak I reflect on these and the situations of many of the tens of leaders I have coached, trained and consulted. And guess what? None of our circumstance are all so different. Every one of these leadership roles involves the wonderful mystery of people and the challenge of leading everyday. When I speak, my goal is to motivate and inspire leaders at every level to lead better and on a more consistent basis. Leadership is like the baton passed in a relay race, and learning when to “pass" it to the next runner with confidence creates a unique and successful team experience.
