For many years Ruth worked with residents, business people, landlords, housing agencies, local police and the City of Lansing Attorney to keep drug dealers on the run and properties inviting for families. Ruth had the quiet humility and fierce resolve quoted above, too. Now we need to pick up where she left off. I would like to invite everyone to honor the work of a slain local leader in Lansing.

I really needed to "hear" this one, today. I'm the Project Coordinator for a grassroots effort to clean up the Grand River in Lansing during the drawdown (link below). Basically, I saw a need, found out no one was meeting it, so am working to gather the resources to meet that need (with no budget and so far no help from the city!). Lately, it's been a "what was I THINKING?!" sort of endeavor, but slowly the powers that be are listening to lil' ole me and others are starting to volunteer to help. It's my volunteers that are making it bearable and bouying me up in this process. I'm sure that's the case for Pat Ball as well. I only hope I can be as gracious come the day of my event.
